Music Stand Monday

It's the Monday after a performance which means it's time to start learning new music! This week I have three rehearsals with the Missouri Symphony for the Classical 3 concert, so Scheherazade is first on the docket! Though it is a standard in the orchestral repertoire, this is my first encounter.

Composed by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov in the late nineteenth century, Scheherazade is a riveting journey through the tale One Thousand and One Nights (a.k.a Arabian Nights) and if you are new to this Russian masterpiece, listen to the link below of the Vienna Philharmonic performance. I will be listening all week!

Joining Scheherazade on my stand are the old regulars--Anderson etudes (op. 33), and my Reichert Daily Exercises (though I usually only have time for one page every day...). Lastly, I'm preparing audition music for an opening in the Wichita Symphony as well as Morceau de concours (Faure) for an upcoming recital in Mons, France. Here is a video of Laurel Ann Maurer performing the Faure--I fondly remember my undergraduate masterclass with her when she helped me dissect the Hindemith Sonata....I can still hear her repeating to me over and over..."More color!" I smiled and nodded, but I'm sure I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about...:)

Happy practicing, everyone!
